Professional Learning Plan

 My PLP:

 What I know

 What I want to know

 How I’ll learn it

- Created a video with "Inshot" along with adding descriptions to it step by step.

- The related Australian Curriculum for teaching money values to year 2 students.

- How to embed videos from YouTube and add links and images from websites into blogger.

- How to relate these videos to real-life experiences in the next lessons in class with fake money

- The important elements of money maths engaging videos that can also be examples of what activities to do in class

- How children can use videos and do related activities on the blog.

-  Strategies to use in making proper activities through the blog

- Increase the knowledge about creating quizzes that are not that challenging for students with special needs.

 - YouTube video giving ideas about activities that can be used for this lesson.  https://youtu.be/YCXfbb4QBWQ

- "Creating a Blog" video on Curtin Blackboard explaining what blogs we can use to find curated resources. Create a Blogger website

- Looking at a few blogs like "Nearpod" and "Learning Apps" or "Skip Counting" tools to get an idea of the templates that can be used (or modified and used) for the activity/practice section of this blog. This is an example of using activity-based approaches in teaching maths https://learningapps.org/

https://www.abcya.com/

- Exploring "Quizizz" resources, games, and quizzes that are engaging and do not create anxiety in students, because of their "multiple attempt" allowance and their standardized questions. https://quizizz.com/join/

- Watching a video about "How to teach time and money to children with special needs". https://youtu.be/FpaAOEhi-pI

My Professional Learning Plan includes the learning sector of the HPQL cycle introduced on the AITSL website (AITSL, 2020, stage 2). My lesson is about teaching Australian money values to year 2 students, according to the related Australian Curriculums. Therefore, I started with finding “Mathematics – Year 2 – Number and Algebra – Money and financial literacy” on the ACARA website and found the related Curriculum (Count and order small collections of Australian coins and notes according to their value (ACMNA034)) (ACARA, 2022). By looking through the content descriptors of the Curriculum, I started looking for the related curated resources which fit year 2 students best.

The first learning area involves getting familiar with creating the blog, adding posts, and attaching videos and links to the blog pages. After creating the blog, the first 2 chosen videos about money values were uploaded from YouTube, and different sections and general explanations were given about them. For including a related activity in the blog, I followed the directions given on “Learning Apps” and modified my chosen template by replacing Australian currency instead of Penny. In order to add a quiz for observing students' general understandings, I used the “Quizizz” quiz tool that operates like a gameshow and gains student attention for contributing to the lesson. Including activities in a blog, especially in teaching mathematics, is highly recommended because it motivates students to learn through fun practices and to engage in the learning process (Ford, 2018).

In the end, I created my Personal introductory video and briefly explained the lesson objectives, success criteria, and the steps to proceed through this lesson. The learning goals will be achieved through the blog’s embedded curated resources and some ideas will also be used in class as activities with play notes and coins.

The Second part of this Professional Learning experience is about the importance of ICT and how to use technologies in maths lessons through engaging approaches.  Teachers are expected to be mindful of the content descriptors they use, they should create appropriate learning activities, and assess student work accurately (Sheffield et al, 2018). Since teachers are expected to keep themselves updated with their surroundings, quality professional learning is highly needed for fostering their knowledge and skills in using different teaching approaches and strategies (Sheffield et al, 2018). Watching online videos, studying articles about strategies to use in teaching students with special needs, meeting other colleagues at collaborative sessions, and using online resources from different safe websites, apps, and blogs are all examples of using Creative technologies through learning experiences (Newhouse, 2017) that I would definitely use through my career. According to these structures, I started researching the ways of using ICT effectively to assist in proper pedagogies, (in particular for students with special needs) and to incorporate authentic assessments.
